4GOOD’s mission is to help families actively participate in volunteer activities to foster the values of kindness, compassion, tolerance, community responsibility and good citizenship.
brief history:
In the summer of 2009, the idea was formulated among 2 families, Erika & Peter Athanas and Katie and Jeff Goldman. They were looking for a meaningful way to show their kids how important it is to give back. Their intentions were in the right place but they were finding it hard to commit the time and the process seemed daunting when trying to do it alone. The likelihood of committing to an activity with a group of friends seemed more doable. So they went in search of finding opportunities to do together. Soon they realized it was not an easy task to find volunteer activities that would be appropriate and interesting for their young kids. Most organizations didn't accommodate kids joining along in the volunteer process.
There you have it....that is how 4GOOD was born…the 2 families started a group on Facebook and in a short time gathered a network of volunteers with the same goal. They started to find unique opportunities to volunteer along side their kids. It gave them and other parents a hands on way to teach their children about giving back, by walking-the-walk together, as a family unit and as members of a giving community.
4GOOD believes that while there has been a huge movement emphasizing volunteerism, there is still a missing link; to include the kids. By participating in the events found and created by 4GOOD, parents can show their children the values of kindness, compassion, tolerance, community responsibility and good citizenship while spending time as a family together. Research shows that children whose parents set the example of giving back and provide volunteer opportunities are 2 times as likely to volunteer as adults than children who are not exposed.
Not only is 4GOOD providing a way for families to volunteer together, it is also creating its own community within the community it is serving. By working together as a group of like minded people, we believe we can build the motivation and focus needed to create a lasting legacy, 4GOOD!
volunteer with your kids...join the movement!!!
